Cooking

Cooking is probably the nicest smelling competition. It embraces a wide range of skills. A skilled cook needs to know how to create a varied menu and prepare dishes both for Michelin-starred restaurants and canteens or cafeterias.

This skill requires not only preparing delicious meals but also preparing budgets, calculating profit margins, ordering and controlling stock and keeping up with the latest food trends, such as organic and vegetarian cuisine. In addition, taking care of hygiene at work is essential for the health and safety of fellow workers and customers.

The food service industry can be a high-pressure environment. That is why a skilled chef should be good at communicating with a team. Co-ordination of the kitchen staff is essential to meet very tight time frames. It is also important that the kitchen team work effectively with other departments to ensure a good overall experience for the hotel or restaurant guests.
