Fashion Design and Technology Team Challenge

Fashion Technology is for someone who loves working with fabrics to cut and create clothes, for high fashion clients or smaller designers.

Designers need to have a strong taste in fashion trends, and knowledge of fabrics and design rules. They are creating prototypes for mass production or unique garments for a single client. Designers must be able to source, buy and store raw materials and fabrics, and then interpret a design into wearable clothes for many different occasions.

The technical skills include design, cutting, pattern construction and garment manufacture. Designers should also have strong interpersonal skills when dealing with clients. Excellent customer care is crucial.

As some projects are commissioned for important events, the designer must understand the needs of the client and be able to offer expert advice. Fabrics can be very expensive, delicate and prone to damage. That’s why the designer must have extensive knowledge of the materials they work with and of effective sourcing, purchasing, handling and storage of all materials.
